Paulo is originally a biochemist and holds a Ph.D. in Health Sciences. While working in Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, United States, and Italy, his research interests covered different areas, including molecular biology, population genetics, signal transduction, digital imaging techniques, etc. He is bilingual (English and Portuguese), speaks Italian and French fluently, has a passable understanding of Spanish, and rudimentary knowledge of German and Danish. Elena obtained a degree in Chemistry from the University of Padua, holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, and her main interests are centred on protein crystallography. During the course of her scientific career, Elena has spent research periods in Ireland and Denmark, and was also an application scientist in Great Britain and the United States. Her mother tongue is Italian and she speaks English fluently. After studying Biology in Kiel and then Genetics in Cologne, Anke obtained her Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. She then came to Italy as a post-doc to pursue her interests in molecular biology, as well as protein chemistry. Her mother tongue is German and she speaks also fluent English, French, and Italian.
